The Doorus Loop at Lauragh is one of our favorite afternoon hikes, offering the perfect blend of coastal beauty and tranquility. It’s a short, rewarding stroll followed by a visit to Helen’s Bar on Kilmacalogue Harbour, where you can enjoy the best pint of Murphy’s in Ireland along with a hearty plate of mussels and chips.
Located just off the R571, near Lauragh on the north side of the Beara Peninsula, the Doorus Loop is an easy 2.3 km hike that takes you along the water’s edge and through lush woodlands. Simply park on the left when driving west, and the loop signs will guide you up into the forest, then lead you back down to the road, crossing over to complete the full circuit.
For those looking for a little more adventure, take a detour to the nearby standing stones and stone circle. From here, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Kenmare Bay that are truly unforgettable.
And, of course, no visit to the area is complete without stopping by Helen’s Bar at Kilmackillogue Pier. It’s another of our absolute favorites—serving up fresh, delicious meals and the creamiest pint of Murphy’s, all at the best price you’ll find anywhere in Ireland.
