Sailing Frequently Asked Questions

  • What to pack for a 5 day sailing course

This is a recommended list to ensure you have the layers you need to be comfortable at sea. If you would like an advice on boots, waterproofs or any element of equipment please do not hesitate to email us on westcorksailing@gmail.com.

    • Offshore waterproof jacket and salopettes – you are outside exposed to the elements all day, windsheeters will not be good enough
    • Wellington boots – clean please
    • Sleeping bag and pillow – or duvet with undersheet (pack into 2 bin bags)
    • 2 x Quick dry towel – 1 for use after swimming and 1 for use after fresh water or 1 towel and thin robie
    • Flannel or wash cloth
    • Comfy trousers / leggings / track pants
    • Thermals top and bottomms – highly recommend investing in marino wool as it is anti bacterial
    • 2 x Long sleep top
    • 2 x Tees / vest top
    • Thin fleece / jumper
    • Thick fleece / jumper
    • Shorts (you never know, you might be lucky :))
    • Wooly hat & Baseball hat
    • Gloves
    • Swim togs
    • Sun glasses
    • Note book and pencil
    • Water bottle
    • Sea sickness tablets if needed – If you think you may be effected by sea sickness we recommend you take a tablet 1 hour before boarding and not waiting until it creaps up on you on board
    • All packed in a soft bag, or a couple of small soft bags – there is not much room on board, so hard bags cannot be stored.

  • Are there power sockets?

    – We have limited USB charging that can be used when the engine is running, so few recommend you keep gadgets to a minimum and bring a powerbank or two!

  • Do I sleep on the boat?

    – Yes. You are allocated a cabin on your own or with your friend / family. We don’t mix people that don’t know eachother. So if you are travelling solo, you need to book a private cabin (which is lovely to have 😊).

  • Do you cater for special diets?

    – In a small galley it is difficult to cater for a wide variety of diets. Let us know if you have an allergy and we will plan the meals for everyone without that food or additive. We as that gluten free crew bring their own breads and but we cannot guarantee zero contamination by the other crew’s gluten breads – talk to us and we will be clear on what is and isn’t possible for you. A vegetarian or vegan boat is an easy one and most or all of our meals are vegetarian. If you are a big meat lover then let us surprize you by our amazing veggie Bolognese and curries 🥒🥕🥜
